DifaTourism, PROBOLINGGO – The Seruni Point Bromo Glass Bridge in the Mount Bromo area, Probolinggo Regency, East Java, is the first and longest glass suspension bridge in Indonesia. So why do visitors have to wear special footwear when crossing the Glass Bridge as one of the tourist attractions in Probolinggo?
Yes, the glass bridge is currently a popular tourist attraction in Indonesia and the world. In Indonesia itself there are not only glass bridges, not only the Seruni Point Bromo glass bridge. Previously, glass bridges were built in other areas, such as Brendeng Bridge in Tangerang and Gumuk Reco Glass Bridge in Semarang.
Regarding the use of special footwear when crossing the glass bridge, explains Achmad Riza Chairullah, PPK Glass Bridge at the Center of Geotechnics, Tunnel and Constructions, Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR RI.
“There will be special footwear for tourists crossing the Seruni Point Bromo glass bridge. The special footwear is intended to prevent slipping due to cold temperatures and the glass is easy to mist,” said Achmad Riza Chairullah.

The glass bridge of Seruni Point is known to be located at a height of 100 meters from the bottom of the cliff in the area of Mount Bromo. Right in Ngadisari Village, Sukapura District, Probolinggo Regency. The location of the bridge has a very cold temperature. Entering the peak of the dry season, the temperature can approach 0 degrees Celsius.
According to information from Achmad Riza, the cold air in the Mount Bromo area causes high humidity and makes the glass bridge of Seruni Point foggy and can cause passing visitors to slip. Therefore, special footwear is needed that can prevent slipping for the safety of visitors.
The construction of the glass bridge Seruni Point Bromo stands at 98 percent on Tuesday (18/10/2022). Work is scheduled for late October 2022 and by the end of this year to increase Probolinggo’s choice of tourist properties.
“We are trying to complete the work by the end of October. Hopefully it can be opened by the end of the year,” he said.
The progress of the construction of the Seruni Point Glass Bridge has shown a 130 meter long glass bridge. There are currently only a few glass panels under construction and completion.
The stretch of the bridge that is at a height of 100 meters from the bottom of the ravine in the Mount Bromo area has different side widths. From 1.8 meters at the end of the bridge to 4.5 meters in the middle of the bridge.
Although they use glass, tourists need not worry. The strength of the first glass bridge in Indonesia is designed according to existing national standards.
The glass components used undergo preliminary testing in the load test lab to verify the designs before use.
The floor or deck construction system of the suspension bridge is in the form of laminated glass or laminated glass consisting of two or more glass plates.
This glass bridge can accommodate up to 100 moving people. Each glass panel of the bridge is 2.8 cm thick with two layers of glass. Each glass has a thickness of approximately 12.5 millimeters.
SGT glass is placed as tamping glass between two layers of glass. Its function, resistant to cracked or broken glass. So if the glass suddenly cracks or breaks, it won’t break right away. The glass is held by SGT.
The adhesive strength of SGT glass becomes as hard as a car tire with each heating. The triple glazing in each panel can support a load of 8 tons.
This bridge also provides photo spots for tourists who are in the middle position. However, tourists are still allowed to take pictures from different sides according to the wishes of tourists.
This glass bridge has been planned so as not to be too crowded with visitors so that it can be used to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. The bridge has been designed from a design perspective to be able to bear a load of 500 kilograms per square metre.
The presence of this glass bridge has become an adrenaline-pumping tourist destination, connecting the Seruni Point Tourism Terminal to the shuttle area which is also being developed.
From the top of the Seruni Point Glass Bridge, visitors can enjoy views of Mount Bromo, Mount Semeru, and Mount Batok nearby.
When it is operational later, visitors to the Seruni Point Glass Bridge can already enjoy the 3 attractions in this tourist attraction.
First, there is an adrenaline rush to see the bottomless pit. The second attraction is that visitors can see the beautiful mountain views surrounding the glass bridge of Seruni Point. In addition, visitors can also travel in protected area ecosystems managed by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
Third, we offer the concept of a bridge light at night. So that with the lighting of the bridge, this object is clearly visible at night from a certain point.
It was previously reported that the Seruni Point Bromo Glass Bridge in Probolinggo Regency was built by the Ministry of PUPR in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, with an investment of Rp. 15 billion with a multi-year budget. Namely the fiscal years 2021 and 2022.
Now that the construction of the glass bridge of Seruni Point is quite advanced, it must be visited during the New Year celebrations as one of the tourist attractions of Probolinggo next to Mount Bromo. You must of course use special footwear from the manager.
